Both grade 7s and grade 8s complete weekly sketchbook assignments. Every week, they are given a topic to depict in their sketchbook. This book is a place for them to demonstrate their creativity, take risks, try new tools and/or perspectives. These books are checked on a weekly basis and are collected every four weeks. Students select their best work after every four weeks for evaluation.
In addition to our sketchbook assignments, each grade works on a skill through an on-going project:
We are beginning a new unit on patterns. We discussed where in our every day lives we can see patterns. Students are using elements from their daily lives as inspiration to create original motifs.
Grade 8
Today we reviewed the elements and principles of design that help in creating unified artworks. We will be focusing on line over the next few weeks. Students will be using contours to create three dimensional forms.
